CORRECTION: Best option considering capabilities and price (I meant Greenfinder not Rangefinder)
I spent quite a bit of time to review the golf applications for iphone. The top 3 contenders to me are Greenfinder, ViewTi G and Golftraxx. I selected and installed Golftraxx over the others and the following are the reasons why:
1. Golftraxx is free while Greenfinder and ViewTi G are $35 each.
2. Golftraxx provides distances from tee to green including front, center and back of the green in addition to fairway bunkers and hazzards. Greenfinder provides the same with additional capability of marking your shot to get a distance (ex: your drive). ViewTi G however, does not provide distances for fairway bunkers & hazzards, instead, it gives you the aerial view of the green allowing you to mark a spot on the green to get a distance for your approach shot.
3. Golftraxx and ViewTi G include a scorecard but Greenfinder does not.
4. Greenfinder and ViewTi G will map your courses for you if you request them. However, Golftraxx provides the instructions to map the courses yourself. I mapped three courses I play often. It is pretty simple and takes an hour per course (two hours if you do the fairways and bunkers). I sent them the maps and they included in the database within three days during the holidays. I downloaded the maps and played a round. It worked liked a charm. If everyone maps couple of courses in their area, the number of courses for Golftraxx can proliferate exponentially in a short period of time.
Conclusion: All three apps basically do the same thing with each having a unique capabilitiy that differentiates them. I picked Golftraxx because it gives me all the details I need and it is free. I will wait and pay for an app that can provide tee to green distances, fairway bunkers and hazzards, fly-over for the entire hole not just the green while showing the distances for bunkers and hazzards just like uPro device and a flexible scorecard. Hope this was helpfull.
